BOMM (Barcode of Medicinal Material) is a system designed to support DNA barcoding analysis of Medicinal Materials, which are the sources of Traditional Medicines (TM) and Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM).

Major features of BOMM:

  • It is the system that contains the largest numbers of medicinal materials and their DNA barcode sequences at present time.
  • It uses Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as the “average” DNA barcode sequences for a given species.
  • It supports multilocus DNA barcoding analyses of medicinal materials.
  • It supports two species identification modules, one is based on the nearest-neighbor individual sequence and the other one is based on the nearest-neighbor average sequence.
  • It provides a rich set of functionalities to visualize the results for species identification based on the powerful tool Jalview.
